The Deputy Lord Mayor was on hand to celebrate the 80th birthday of Levenshulme Baths on Saturday with local residents.

The celebrations organised by staff members at the Baths along with local residents were extremely well attended. The birthday celebrations were held on Armed Forces Day and collections were held at the Baths for the Help for Heroes cause.

The Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Elaine Boyes cut the cake alongside local Cllrs Charles Glover, Paul Shannon and James Hennigan.

Cllr. Charles Glover said, “It was great to see everyone having such a great time, especially the kids, at the 80th Birthday of Levy Baths. It showed yet again how important the Baths are to us all. It was great we could use this event to raise some funds for Help for Heroes and say thanks to all our military heroes”.

There were lots of events for all the family ranging from a treasure hunt round Levenshulme, face-painting, wet sponge soaker and a floating flower lantern ceremony which raised funds for the Help for Heroes cause.

Deputy Lord Mayor Elaine Boyes said, “I was delighted to have the opportunity to come to Levenshulme and celebrate the baths 80th birthday, I know just how much the baths mean to everyone in the area”.

Cllr James Hennigan commented, “The Baths are really special to us all, I swam here as a child as did my Dad and my Grandad taught himself to swim here at the grand age of 60!”
