Baroness Roz Scott visits Levenshulme
Baroness Roz Scott visited Levenshulme yesterday at the invitation of local Councillors Keith Whitmore, Alec Cowan and John Commons.
The Liberal Democrats councillors showed her the severe access problems at Levenshulme Railway Station and of course our local Levenshulme landmark the 'street with no name' sign which came about due to the hard working local Friends of Levenshulme Station group..
Baroness Scott, the distinguished Liberal Democrat from the House of Lords, met with local Levenshulme traders Mr. Nawaz & Mr. Yar under the verandah before being shown the need for investment and regeneration highlighted by the Lib Dem Councillors at Elbow Street/Stockport Road area.
Roz Scott met with Mr. Zocco and family at 'Tony's the Barbers' who supplied much needed traditional Italian expresso coffee while visiting the derelict site near his shop. She then heard from Cllr. Whitmore about the need for a replacement Supermarket on the High Street and the letter he had recently written to Tesco, one possible interested party.
On the brighter side Baroness Scott was delighted to see how local business man Lawrence Hennigan had turned a burnt out bed shop on Stockport Road into a thriving wine bar. She had a full tour of M19 bar from James Hennigan, the Commercial Assistant at the Levenshulme Pub Company.
Baroness Scott wished the local councillors, the Levenshulme Traders, and all our local community campaigners well in their endeavours to see successful regeneration in Levenshulme, offering to help in any way she could these efforts and promising to return soon after her wedding this summer.
